Scripture Union Daily Guide 12 December 2025 Outline

In 1 Samuel 30:16-19 we read that David through the assistance of the Egyptian found the Philistines completely relaxed, drinking and celebrating what they thought was a great plunder. They became easy prey for David having let down their guard completely (1 Samuel 30:17). He was able to recover everything that was stolen including his two wives who were abducted. What do you learn from this concerning God’s promises (1 Samuel 30:8)? He returned to Ziglag with a great spoil (1 Samuel 30:20). What is your evaluation of 1 Samuel 30:20b, “….This is David’s spoil.”

Read again 1 Samuel 30:21-25 and comment on David’s decision and the statute. Why do you think there are few, if any, leaders like David today? To further crown his generosity, he shared the spoil with the elders of Judah (1 Samuel 30:26-31). It is rightly said, ‘if you pour water ahead, you will step on wet ground.’ By sharing the spoil with those who had sheltered him from Saul’s pursuit, David was laying a foundation for his future popularity as a magnanimous leader. No doubt, his action earned him favour both within his camp and in Judah.

And So?
It is not only the pastor and those on the field who are in fulltime ministry. Wherever you are, you are in fulltime ministry for the Lord.
